Generations go and come, but the world remains. Everyone is striving for a better and peaceful world. Different nations seek peace, advancement, and economic development, but just a few people understand where the secret lies.

The North, West, South, and East desire a better future, but if we need to get what we seek, we must understand the true power to pull down the impediments holding us from moving forward. We cry and lament because we want a more inclusive world for the youth; because we are incognizance of where the strength truly lies.

Prejudice and a high level of bigotry about age and generation are pulling us down from achieving our goals. Ageism limits a country from moving forward. If the world must march on, there must be contributions from different age groups and generations. Achieving a better world is impossible without voices from different generations speaking. The youths must listen to the old, and the old must build a better place with contributions from the youths.

We are in an era where youths gradually lose their voices; though they are shouting on the roof-top, it seems no one is ready to listen. Ageism devalues us. If we keep our gaze on age, we may never move forward from where we are.

Discrimination based on age will further create injustices. We feel the gap whenever we silence a particular generation in a community. We seek solutions, but no one wants to talk about people’s experiences because we are afraid of getting to the root of the problems.

This year’s international youth day theme: Intergenerational Solidarity; Creating a World for different ages, called for sober reflection. We must ask ourselves if every generation in the world today is allowed to make decisions concerning the progress of the community and the world at large.

Many organizations today seeking employees will give you the different ages they expect to work with; why? Because of discrimination among people, we believe a specific age group is more vibrant, exposed, agile, and hardworking. The question is, what happens to other age groups that we are shutting out of employment? It is how we are creating injustice everywhere in the world, forgetting that if the world would be a better place, there must be contributions from different generations, learning not to undermine the strength of age groups or devalue the power of the youths. We need to know how to build intergenerational partnerships and solidarity to achieve our common goals.

How Do We Promote Intergenerational Solidarity?

Promoting Collaborations and Partnerships between the Different Generations

Suppose we must achieve intergenerational solidarity and create a more suitable world for different ages. In that case, we must promote full participation and engagement in politics, economics, and the growth and development of different nations by other age groups and generations. Contrary to the majority’s opinions, politics wasn’t designed just for the adults or aged but for everyone willing to drive the course of a nation. We need to involve every generation in the decision-making process in every country.

Create a Platform to Educate and Sensitize People against Discrimination

We cannot create a better world for different ages if we don’t sensitize people on why the old need to participate in the activities and the youths need to get on the scene. There is a need to create awareness for intergenerational solidarity. There should be a platform where we can harness the power and potential of different generations to create a better world for everyone to live in.

Our leaders must create an excellent strategy to harness the strength and wisdom resident in every generation if we achieve our goals as communities, nations, and the world. Every generation has its uniqueness, and we need to know how to dig out the gold and bricks we need to build our mansion and create a better world for everyone. No generation can do it alone. No generation has all it takes. We all have different portions of solutions we carry, and until we understand this secret and facts, we will not move from where we are to where we need to be as a nation.

We all need a better place and world, but this is impossible without the partnership between different generations. Enough of aged people ruling and reigning, and it’s time to collaborate and create a better world for various ages to thrive. We must never forget that creating a better world requires much effort, and everyone must come together to build a better place for us to stay.

Intergenerational solidarity is possible. We can create a better world for different ages. We must empower the old ones to discharge their duties, and so as the youths. We will surely achieve our goals if we create a sustainable system for everyone. We must improve communication and engage everyone for solidarity to be effective. We should not leave anyone behind because we all deserve the new world and must unite to give our all and build our dreams. The strength of the youth combined with the wisdom of the old will deliver the future we seek.
